The Summer Workshop is a programme designed for undergraduates, i.e. current students enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme at a university. Hence, we are unable to take in high school / Master’s / PhD students.
A cluster is a collection of courses sharing common characteristics. A course is a specific topic under a cluster that you will be exploring in depth for your project in Phase 2 (July).
Upon confirmation of your participation in the workshop, you will be assigned to a cluster. You will not be assigned to a course at this point.
In Phase 1 (May) of the workshop, you will be attending introductory lectures on all the courses under your assigned cluster. By the end of May, when you have completed the introductory lectures and have a better idea of each of the courses in your cluster, you will be asked to indicate your preference for the course that you wish to explore further in Phase 2 (July).
The Organizer will then allocate a course to you based on a number of factors including but not limited to your course preference, Phase 1 lecture attendance, Phase 1 quiz and/or assignment score, academic integrity, the availability of a course, etc. You will then proceed to Phase 2 of the workshop in July to attend advanced lectures and develop a group project in this course.
Yes, the programme fee includes accommodation from 4 July 2023 to 26 July 2023.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome or any subsequent steps required (if application materials / information are incomplete) via email within 2 weeks of submitting an application.
If you are successful in creating an application, you should have received an email containing your login ID and password shortly after you submitted your application (usually within 30 minutes).
If you did not receive this email (please check your junk mailbox too), it means that your application is most likely not recorded.

When the reviewers are unable to view the pdf file submitted by you, it is usually because the file is not named in English. Please rename your file in English and resubmit it.
An official academic transcript should be endorsed by your university with the university logo as the heading, listing clearly all the courses you have taken to date and the corresponding course grades. Please do not provide screenshots or an Excel table of your grades as these do not reflect the legitimacy of your academic record.
If you are successful in making payment, you should immediately receive an automatically generated email containing an electronic receipt. You may have to check your junk mailbox if you do not find it in your main mailbox. Your place in the workshop will be automatically confirmed upon successful payment.
If you did not receive the email containing your payment receipt, it is likely that your payment is not successful.
After you have received an offer to the workshop, you can log in to the application system and go to the Accepted page (you can find the Accepted button on the left panel). You can find the cluster that you are assigned to under Recommended Cluster.
In general, students are required to submit their passport information no later than May so that we can issue the invitation letters to students without delay.
Yes, invitation letters are usually issued in bulk at the end of May or early June, after the final number of participants who will be traveling to NUS for the workshop are confirmed and their passport information are all in place. The invitation letter will include information such as the participant’s name, gender, passport number, accommodation address, and the Organizer’s contact information.
Students are allowed to check in to the NUS hostel from 4 July 2023 onwards and are required to check out by 26 July 2023. For any time before 4 July and beyond 26 July, students will need to source for their own accommodation as the hostel rooms will not be available outside this period.
Students are advised to arrive on either 4 July or 5 July as these are the airport transfer days when students transfer from the airport to our hostel. There will be a welcome session in the afternoon of 5 July. Classes will begin on 6 July.
If you are staying in Singapore beyond the workshop after 26 July, please ensure that you have a valid permit for the entire duration of your stay in Singapore. Depending on your nationality, a valid period of stay in Singapore per entrance is typically 30 days. Nevertheless, you should find out the maximum period you can stay in Singapore and plan your travel in advance to avoid overstaying, which is a serious offense.
4 July 2023 and 5 July 2023 are airport transfer days when students transfer from the airport to our hostel. Buses will be arranged to transfer students from Changi Airport to the NUS hostel and you will be guided by our staff to check in to the hostel.
Note that if your arrival date/time is not within our standard pick-up timeslots (to be released closer to the arrival dates) or there is insufficient headcount in your arrival timeslot for us to arrange for a group pick-up, you may have to make your own way to the hostel unless we have informed you or worked with your home university on other arrangements. Rest assured, in such cases, you will be notified in advance and instructions on how to get to the hostel and how to check in will be provided to you.
Buses will also be arranged for students to transfer from the NUS hostel to Changi Airport on 26 July 2023. Buses depart from the hostel at a few given timeslots, and you will be asked to indicate your preferred timeslot closer to the end of the workshop. Note that the actual allocated timeslot depends on demand – airport transfer will only be arranged when there is a sufficient headcount within the timeslot. The departure bus schedule will be released closer to 26 July 2023.
Students should apply for visas (if required) on their own. The Summer Workshop Organizer does not apply for visas for students.
Students should apply for a tourist visa since the period of the Summer Workshop is too short to qualify for other types of visas.
Participants from the People's Republic of China (PRC) should apply for a visa within 30 days prior to the date of entry to Singapore. Visa applications that are submitted more than 30 days before the arrival date will not be processed. Visa applications by PRC applicants should be submitted through a Singapore Overseas Mission or through its authorised visa agent.
